Montenegro's tourism is diverse

In one day, the curious traveler can have a coffee on one of the numerous beaches of the Budva Riviera, eat lunch with the song of the birds on Skadar Lake and dine next to a fireplace on the slopes of the Durmitor Mountain.

A large number of sunny days in summer and a large quantity of snow in winter determine the two most developed forms of tourism in Montenegro: the coastal one- in summer and the ski recreational one - in winter

Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
The contribution of Travel & Tourism to Gross Domestic Product is expected to rise from 20.8% (EUR730.0 mn or US$1,018.0 mn) in 2009 to 25.6% (EUR1,791.5 mn or US$2,290.9 mn) by 2019.

Employment
The contribution of the Travel & Tourism economy to employment is expected to rise from 29,340 jobs in 2009, 17.8% of total employment or 1 in every 5.6 jobs to 41,320 jobs, 23.0% of total employment or 1 in every 4.3 jobs by 2019.

Growth
Real GDP growth for Travel & Tourism economy is expected to be 0.7% in 2009 and to average 6.2% per annum over the coming 10 years.

Exports
Export earnings from international visitors and tourism goods are expected to generate 39.6% of total exports (EUR539.8 mn or US$752.8 mn) in 2009, growing (nominal terms) to EUR2,020.3 mn or US$2,583.4 mn (50.1% of total) in 2019.

Lovcen:

The biggest monument of NP Lovcen is Njegos’Mausoleum, risen at Jezerski vrh (Lake Crest), a place where laid to rest Petar II Petrovic Njegos – the most important Montenegrin ruler and poet
  • Situated in the southwest of Montenegro, Lovcen rises from the borders of the Adriatic basin closing the long ang twisting Boka’s bays and making the hinterland to the ancient coastal town of Kotor.
  • Lovcen’s area abounds in numerous elements of national construction. The old houses and village ”guvna“ are authentic as well as the cottages in ”katuns“ – summer settlements of cattlebreeders.

 

Skadarsko Jezero:

  • Maintains contact with the Adriatic Sea through the River Bojana.
  • Numerous cultural-historical monuments make this area a significant cultural center. 
  • Skadar Lake is a ”bird paradise“ for almost 264 bird species.
    • In Europe, the rare Dalmatian pelican (Pelecanus crispus) has become the symbol of the Lake and Skadar Lake National Park
